Requirements:-  

Minimum of a MSc or equivalent qualification in the natural sciences.
• Proven competency with R statistical software and spatial analysis packages.
• Published articles in peer-reviewed journals as lead author.
• Field experience in seabird colonies including the deployment of biologgers on seabirds.
• South African citizen or permanent resident.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• A valid code B drivers licence.

Requirements:-  

A PhD relevant to either or combination of: i) climate science; ii) impact; or iii) adaptation.
• An ability to both work in a team, take initiative to solve research questions and contribute to
research expansion of the group.

• Interest in working with and supervising postgraduate students.

Requirements:-  

A bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) qualification recognised by the South African
Qualifications Authority (SAQA) in one or more of the following fields of study:
Transport Logistics; Maritime studies or Economics and Engineering Management,
or equivalent relevant qualification.
 A minimum of five (5) years’ experience at middle managerial level.
 Successful completion of the Public Service Senior Management Leadership
Programme.
Knowledge of policies and relevant legislation pertaining to the various aspects of
the oceans and coasts environment.
Knowledge inter-governmental system.
Knowledge and experience in planning, monitoring and reporting.
Knowledge of government administration and financial procedures.
 Knowledge public service and government administrative prescripts, policies and
procedures.
Knowledge of financial and procurement administrative procedures (Public Finance
Management Act (PFMA) and Treasury Regulations).
Good strategic capability and leadership, analytics skills and understanding of
environmental issues.
Experience in strategic planning, programme and project management, and
organisational transformation.
Computer literacy and good communication skills (both verbal and report writing)
with advanced experience in stakeholder engagement, and sound problem solving
and analytical skills.

Requirements:- 

The ideal candidate should have at least a PhD in Meteorology, Physical Oceanography,
Atmospheric Sciences.
• Minimum 5- 10 years’ experience in building and running numerical models such as Delft 3D,
SWAN, Wave Watch III, ROMS, NEMO.
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Ability to work in a team.
• Candidate should have adequate experience working on successful projects and writing
quality research proposals for funding.
• Substantial applied experience with scientific computing using languages such as MATLAB
and Python.
• Experience in a Linux computing and scripting environment.
• Experience in the Linux operating environment and scripting within this system
• Proven project management skills in a team leader capacity.
• Evidence of relevant peer reviewed publications, lead/co-author in at least 3 scientific papers.

Requirements:-

The position requires a degree in Life Sciences, Natural Sciences, Ecology, Biology, Botany, or equivalent qualification with NQF 7. A postgraduate qualification or equivalent degree at NQF 8 will be an added advantage. This position also requires 4 years of work experience in the relevant field.

Requirements:-

A PhD in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics, or a PhD in the Biological
Sciences, or relevant qualification (NQF Level 10), with a strongly quantitative
fisheries modelling focus, 10 years’ relevant scientific experience after BSc
qualification and compulsory registration with South African Council for Natural
Scientific Professions (SACNASP) as a Professional Natural Scientist (registration
certificate or current subscription confirmation must be provided with application).
• Knowledge of: the Marine Living Resources Act; fishery sector and fisheries
management; quantitative assessment techniques for fisheries; including stock
assessment models, operational management procedures, management strategy
evaluation, and development of stock recovery plans; statistical and analytical
software, including “R” and Automatic Differentiation Model Builder (ADMB), and
coding; biology, ecology, life history strategies and population dynamics of fisheries
resources; scientific methodologies and models; research and development;
computer-aided scientific applications; legal compliance; technical report writing;
data analysis; policy development and analysis; scientific presentation.

Requirements:-

Honours Degree in Mathematical Science/Natural Sciences or relevant qualification
(NQF Level 8).
• Three (03) years post qualification experience in applied marine science or relevant
field and compulsory registration with South African Council for Natural Scientific
Professions (SACNASP) as a Professional Natural Scientist (registration document
or annual subscription confirmation must be provided with application).
• Knowledge: theoretical and/ or practical knowledge of fisheries and biological
research activities.
• Familiar with software applications for the storage and manipulation of large
datasets and statistical analysis of data, in particular the MS Access database
environment and the statistical programming language ‘R.
• Proven ability to carry out quantitative analyses.
• Ability to formulate and write reports and peer-reviewed scientific papers and
scientific reviews.
• Skills: data analysis and statistics; strong quantitative focus; programme and
project management.
• Ability to identify research gaps and develop an appropriate research programme.
• Ability to work individually and in a team.
• Ability to under pressure and submit documents to international fora within
required timeframe.
• Ability and willingness to work at sea.

Requirements:-

• National Diploma (NQF 6) in Biological Science, or equivalent qualification.
• Compulsory registration with the South African Council for Natural Scientific
Professions (SACNASP) as certificated natural scientist.
• Three (3) years’ relevant post-qualification technical experience is required.
• Registration with SACNASP is compulsory (must provide a certified copy of
Registration Certificate, or proof of recent application for registration plus payment
for such).
• Experience in research design and application of data collection methods.
• Familiarity with data management/ quality control and parameters for validation.
• Experience and/or qualification in data management and analysis
software/programs.
• Understanding of practical application; design; maintenance and/or calibration of
marine monitoring equipment/systems.
• Ability to organise and participate in field work and/or go to sea for extended
periods.
• Successful candidate must be within the basic parameters to satisfy sea-going and
commercial diver medical/physical and Safety at Sea training.
• The following would be an added advantage: a small craft skipper’s certificate
(Merchant Shipping Act, 1951); commercial dive qualification or willingness to train
for one.
• Experience working with large marine vertebrates (turtles; sharks; marine
mammals and seabirds).

marine research experience.
